~~~~Gummie never felt much like a Great White Shark, because he hardly had any teeth. So one day, the Shark Tooth Fairy came along and decided to fix that. By using the lost teeth she collected from the other sharks, she creates a mouth full of teeth for Gummie! ~~~~~~

The book “Gummie the Not-So-Great White Shark” inspires compassion and respect for animals

because even liSle kids know the hallmark of a great white shark is its teeth—without all those

teeth, he can’t be a “great” white! So, that’s what Gummie’s dilemma is (the plot of the

storyline) and nobody takes him seriously because of that. Fortunately, the clever shark tooth

fairy creates a mouth full of teeth for Gummie by using all the other shark’s teeth she collected!

In what way does the book inspire compassion and respect for animals in its readers?

Gummie probably has the most gra2tude for his teeth than his other shark peers because

only he knows what it’s like to lack them. I think this story will give hope to kids who are

currently deficient in something and feel ostracized by others because of their circumstances.

Miracles happen and things change, such was the case with Gummie and so can the case be

with that par2cular child who reads this story and can relate to the shark!

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE BOOK:

I was inspired to write “Gummie the Not-So-Great White Shark” when my sister brought up the

concept of a shark with no teeth (I’m not sure what we were talking about that led her to that

thought) but the idea intrigued me! So, just using my raw imagina=on, I developed a storyline

centered around this shark with no teeth. Coming up with a resolu=on was ini=ally hard

though, but I landed on crea=ng another pivotal character the tooth fairy doing something that,

ironically, she wouldn’t do—give teeth to Gummie! A great white is not a great white without

his teeth a[er all. I wanted a swi[ and sweet entertaining read that delights and ignites a child’s

imagination!
